Knockout questions
The eligibility checkboxes you answer before your resume is ever read. This is the closest thing to a genuine automatic filter, and most recruiters use them. Answer one outside the acceptable range and your application leaves the active pool immediately — not by an algorithm judging your worth, but by a checkbox.
Some are genuinely binary: you either hold the licence or you don't. But others are softer than they look, and people eliminate themselves on those daily — a salary figure typed in without thinking, a years-of-experience number counted too conservatively, a 'do you have experience with X' answered no because you used it for four years under a different product name.
